Instructions for Authors

Article 1 (Submission)
- Manuscripts written in Hangul word processor must be uploaded to the webhard (www.webhard.co.kr, ID: ahak2004).
- A review fee of KRW 60,000 must be paid online to the Industrial Bank of Korea account (070-000326-01-011, Art History Association of Korea).
- Resubmission is permitted only once, no earlier than 6 months after the rejection decision.
- Authors must confirm the receipt of their submission themselves.
- Submitted manuscripts will not be returned.
Article 2 (Length of manuscript and number of figures)
- Manuscripts should not exceed 120 pages based on 200-character manuscript paper, excluding the English abstract and bibliography.
- Revised manuscripts after review should not exceed 130 pages.
- The maximum number of photographs (figures) is limited to 20.
- In principle, manuscripts exceeding the prescribed length will be rejected at the first review stage.
Article 3 (Review)
- The review process consists of first, second, and final review stages.
- Anonymous review is conducted, and the review process is kept confidential.
- Results are notified after the final review is completed.
Article 4 (Publication fees)

Additional publishing fees may be charged if the manuscript exceeds the prescribed length.
Article 5 (Proofreading)
Authors may proofread once after editing, limited to correction of typographical errors only. Changes to the original text are not permitted.
Article 6 (Style guide)
1) General principles
- Manuscripts should be written using Hangul word processor with font size 10 and line spacing 160%.
- Korean texts should be accompanied by Chinese characters as a rule.
- The transliteration of foreign words and names follows standard notation rules.
- Notation: Artwork titles in 〈 〉, book titles in 『 』, article titles in 「 」.
2) Title and table of contents
- The title of the manuscript is followed by a table of contents. Both Korean and English titles and author information should be provided.
- Chapters and sections are given in the order of I, 1, 1), (1), 가/나/다.
3) Quotations
- If possible, translated text should be given. Original text can be provided in footnotes if necessary.
- If the cited text is lengthy, it should be given in a separate paragraph with font size one point smaller, preceded and followed by a single blank row.
4) Figures and tables
- Figures and tables should be provided in a separate document.
- Figures are given consecutive numbers in the form of (fig 1).
- Tables are given a separate set of numbers in the form of (표 1).
- Caption order: (fig 1), artist(s), 〈Title of artwork〉, date or period, medium, size, current institution.
- Images should be 300 dpi, JPEG format, 2-3 MB recommended.
- When using photos from published literature, the source should be cited at the end of the caption: (Author, Title of the Book, figure number or page).
- Images included in tables are counted as figures.
5) Notes
In principle, notes should be given in the form of footnotes.

- Book: 김리나, 『한국고대불교조각사연구』(일조각, 1989), p. 130.
- Translated book: 디트리히 제켈, 이주형 역, 『불교미술』(예경, 2002), pp. 101-105.
- Journal article: 안휘준, 「고려시대의 인물화」, 『고고미술』180 (1988. 12), pp. 9-11.

Western language references:
- Book: Michael Levey, Painting at a Court, (New York: New York University Press, 1971), p. 134.

6) Bibliography
References should be listed in the order of primary sources, Korean literature, other Asian languages, and Western languages. Asian language literature should be arranged in Korean pronunciation order. The Chicago Manual of Style should be followed.

Western language examples:

Article 7 (Other conventions)
- Artist or author names should be given in formal names, not style names.
- Footnotes should be placed where a certain context or content ends in the sentence.
- Chinese and Japanese proper nouns: Chinese characters with Korean notation at first mention.
Article 8 (Keywords and abstracts)
- Up to 5 major keywords should be given in the form of 'Korean (English).'
- Romanization: Korean words follow the McCune-Reischauer system; Chinese words use Pinyin.
- Korean abstract should be no more than 500 characters.
- English abstract is commissioned by the editorial committee, and revised by the author after translation.
Article 9
Reviews, reports, essays, interviews, and other forms of writing should also follow the above guidelines.
Article 10
Matters not stipulated in these guidelines shall be determined by the editorial committee.
