Abstract

Law for Protection of Cultural Property of Korea enacted in 1962 is similar to modern Japanese Acts such as Law for Maintenance of Old T emples and Shrines (1897), The Order for Preservation of T reasures and Historic Sites in Colonial Korea (1933), and Law for Protection of Cultural Property of Japan enacted in 1950. In particular, the ‘evidences of history’ and ‘models of art’ which are the core of the criteria for designating cultural properties, and considered to come from modern Japan since the Law for Maintenance of Old T emples and Shrines, had influenced on Law for Protection of Cultural Property of Korea as well as designation of cultural properties in Colonial Korea. A thorough review on the similarity between Law for Protection of Cultural Property of Korea and modern Japanese laws is required, and a full-scale discussion is needed to overcome the Japanese model or the Japanese paradigm.
